| 内容記述 | 1980年代以降の日本社会における在留外国人の急増に伴い,日本社会の多言語・多文化社会化が進展している。それに伴い,外国籍住民が日常生活の各場面で「言葉の壁」に直面するケースが増えている。コミュニティ通訳は,司法,医療,学校,行政などの各場面でホスト社会と外国籍住民の言葉の橋渡しを行う存在である。なかでも,外国人患者の健康維持と生命の安全に直結する医療通訳の重要性は際立っている。にもかかわらず,日本においては医療通訳の普及はそれほど進んでいないのが現状である。 医療通訳者は会議通訳や司法通訳などと異なり,文化的差異の重視やアドボカシー(擁護行為)が求められるなどの特殊性を有しており,医療現場における通訳者の介入については,専門的なトレーニングを受けたプロフェッショナルの通訳者が介入することが求められる。 |

| 内容記述 | With the rapid increase of foreign residents in Japan after the 1980s, "the language barrier" is becoming a serious issue affecting Japanese multilingual and multicultural society. The role of the community interpreter is to act as mediator between the host society and foreign residents in respective environments, such as the judiciary, medical care, school and administration. The role of the medical interpreter, whose job it is to ensure health maintenance of foreign residents, is particularly salient. The number of medical interpreters, however, is not significantly increasing in Japan. Unlike conference or legal interpreters, the medical interpreter's specialism includes such premises as “respect for the importance of culture and cultural differences" and “ advocacy, " which therefore demands specially trained professionals. |
