内容記述 Markets are the second largest generator of municipal solid waste after households. Research aims to measure the average daily waste generation, to determine waste composition, to measure the efficacy of market-based waste management, to identify the factors influencing market waste generation, to explain the parameters of market waste generation, and to make policy recommendations toward sustainable practice of a market-based waste management system in Sragen Regency has been conducted at Gemolong Market and Bunder Market, in Sragen Regency, Indonesia.
The result shows that the average quantity of waste per day trader at Gemolong Market is 0.124 kg/m^2/day or 0.426 L/m^2/day and in Bunder Market is 0.341 kg/m^2/day or 1.168 L/m^2/day. The total waste composition was dominated by organic waste, 80.16% at Gemolong Market and 91.28% at Bunder Market, while inorganic waste accounted for the remaining 19.84% and 8.72% in the former and the latter, respectively. The potentiality for improved management of waste to be composted and recycled in the former was approximately 42.81% and 14.27% of total market waste, respectively and in a similar manner for the latter was about 54.98% and 5.52%, respectively. The factors influencing market waste generation at Gemolong Market were waste generated treatment, vendor type and spoiled merchandise treatment. Meanwhile, gender and age of traders were other factors influencing market waste generation at Bunder Market. The parameters of market waste generation were the allocation of waste bins, waste generation capacity, the frequency of waste collection, the allocation of storage containers, and the number of collection crews and collection vehicles. Finally, some policies are recommended toward sustainable practice of market-based waste management system in Sragen Regency such as the local government should provide recycle banks or composting units in the markets and health education program targeting to all people attending the market should be emphasized.
