| 内容記述 | In this paper, using conversation analysis as a methodology, I will aim to unravel the meaning of local resources; in other words, what has been unconsciously considered traditional culture. I would like to explore the question of what makes culture a locally situated traditional culture. The conversational data comes from the Ogawa district in Nishimera village in Miyazaki prefecture, Japan. The participants of the conversation are kitchen staff at a local restaurant where they cook and serve their traditional food. In the data, they are discussing the menus offered at the restaurant. The analysis will focus on the question of how traditional local cuisine is talked about and treated by the local residents themselves by paying attention to the structure of the conversation. Obtaining the ingredients seems always an issue. The information about who among the residents has which ingredients when and how much are routinely looked for. I would argue that their way of checking the ingredients for cooking reveals their orientation to their local food, which is relevant to what makes the menu local resource. Based on the findings, I will extend my considerations to the issues of succession of local resources and also the meaning of looking at the interactions in detail. |
