Although the mechanism has not been unknown yet, a model is proposed in which electrons excited by light irradiation are captured by electron traps, the electrons re-excited to the conduction band of the material by mechanical stimulation, and emited light at the emission center of the material. Strontium aluminate doped Eu and Dy, and added the same amount (at.%) of fluorine (F) and sulfur (S) as impurities were prepared by a solid-state reaction method. The ML intensity increased with the addition of the amount of F and S, peaked at 0.17 at.% each, and then decreased. The activation energy of the trap levels also had a similar tendency for the samples.
