In the previous study, a reciprocating engine was modified to a compressed air engine for solar thermal power generation. The purposes of this study are an improvement of engine performance and controllability under superheated steam driven condition. In order to improve the engine performance, cam profile for intake and exhaust valve was redesigned. After modifying superheated steam generator for improvement of controllability, engine performance test was done. From the results of the test, the maximum lift of the intake valve was increased from 1.50mm to 4.67mm, however, the engine speed in no -load condition did not increase. Increasing the working angle of the intake and exhaust cam caused the increase of indicated work. In experiments under the superheated steam driven condition, the controllability of the engine was improved by improvement of the superheated steam generator, and the brake power was larger than the power consumption of the pump as the drive energy of the engine.
