内容記述 | A method of determining the apparent wave propagation velocity of seismic waves with respect to the ground surface is presented. The intent is to establish a practical procedure to deal with the effects of earthquakes on long structures such as bridges and pipelines as well as on the torsional rotation of foundations of symmetric buildings. This method utilizes the connection between knowledge of the seismic behavior of buried pipelines and a probabilistic description of spatial variation of strong earthquake ground displacements. The pipeline is assumed to be a straight slender beam on a flexible foundation, and the ground displacement is interpreted as a random function of space variables. This model, together with the recently reported damage statistics, makes it possible to identify an average apparent wave propagation velocity. The resulting velocity is a function of the predominant period of the ground movement in question. A comparison of the analytical and observed apparent wave propagation velocities indicates a potential validity of the probabilistic method presented in this paper. | |||||
