A questionnaire was sent to 1,000 specialized nursing homes for the elderly requiring care in Japan, and one person from each nursing home filled out the questionnaire and returned it to us by mail. The questionnaire dealt with issues such as facilities, employees, terminal care, and nursing duties. Valid responses were obtained from 433 nursing homes (return rate : 43.3%). In nursing homes with residents in the terminal stage of their illness, nursing duties greatly vaied "performing medical procedures" "assisting daily living activity", "contacting and educating other workers" and "contacting family members". Of these, nurses spent most of their time providing life-saving physical care. The results showed that nurses were on call for nighttime emergencies and had a very limited amount of time for collaborating with other workers. Furthermore, the results showed that nurses wanted to provide psychological care and physical care that would suit the needs of residents and their family members. Therefore, in order to enrich terminal care in the future and to provide care that nurses can agree on, it will be necessary to resolve issues related to work systerns, personnel arrangements, and medical systems.}, pages = {27--37}, title = {特別養護老人ホームのターミナルケアにおける看護職の役割と課題}, volume = {2}, year = {2004}, yomi = {ヤマダ, ミユキ and イワモト, テルヨ} }
