Therefore, it is necessary to grasp gas flow in an engine in detail. About the laser doppler velocimeter (LDV), it is important to miniaturize for the improvement in flexibility of measurement. He-Ne laser has so far been used as a laser light source, however, the laser oscillation part is very large. In order to extend the measurement point within an engine, the improvement in flexibility of equipment is required. Then, we decided to use a laser diode (LD) as a light source for improvement of LDV system. Therefore, the characteristic of laser diode was evaluated. There is no precedent of LDV which used laser diode in measurement of gas flow in an engine until now. For this reason, it aimed at the validity in the measurement in an engine as LD-LDV being shown. As a result, it was shown that a laser diode is effective for the LDV light source.
