This study used the research of the National Japanese Institute on honorific knowledge on honorific expressions in Japanese. Knowledge of honorifics is one of the factors used in assessing the scholastic ability of Japanese and is also highly correlated with scholastic ability of Japanese (Hayano 1996). In the course of study, students learn about 900 English words over three years. Research on making suitable setences with honorifics in English was carried out. Three situations were given to students. Then, research on personality traits with about 20 items based on Hayano (1996) was carried out. The results indicated that there was no correlation between honorific knowledge in Japanese and the ability to make sentences in English. Junior high school students as speakers didn't know various honorific expressions in English. There were gaps between their Japanese knowledge and their English knowledge regarding honorific expressions. If they mastered the use of English, we would expect to find correlation with honorific knowledge in future research.}, pages = {25--34}, title = {英語習得における日本語能力の影響 : 中学生を対象とした待遇表現調査から}, volume = {21}, year = {2009}, yomi = {タムラ, キョウコ and ハヤノ, シンゴ} }
