We conducted a lower secondary school pupils' field learning supported by a museum in cooperation with a school. Six grade nine pupils started to investigate tidal flats as the study of an optional science course in their school. They were guided and supported by a science teacher who asked the museum staff to advice her and her pupils. In order to explore their learning outcomes, we examined the progress of pupils' conceptual understandings about tidal flats during educational practice.
