<dc:description>This study presents three episodes of English language teaching in junior high schools based on the author's reflections. Each episode covers different classroom practices conducted by either an English language teacher or the author. The paper uses an underlying concept of “appropriation" to discuss the contexts in which interactions occurred between not only teachers and students but also among students. Findings reveal that(1)the ways each student shows their difficulties in learning new grammatical items during interactional processes are different from each other;(2)through exploring each episode, the author could learn about the conflicts English language teachers faced with when adopting new teaching styles, and(3)the two teachers could gradually cope with what took place among their students inside their classrooms. The study concludes that using episodes in an academic paper, which include suggestions regarding teachers' professional development as well as students' knowledge construction processes, can prove the usefulness of reflecting on and analyzing scenarios witnessed in classrooms.</dc:description>
