          <dc:description>The depot fat thickness at several locations, rib eye area (REA) and marbling score between 6-7th rib of three hundred live cows were ultrasonically scanned at the body conformation judgments before the first calving, and forty six of them were also scanned continuously from the first to the third pre-and post-calving. The data were analyzed by correlation procedure between body condition and depot fat thickness and also by least squares procedure to study the effects of genetic and environmental factors on the ultrasonic estimates of carcass traits of cows.
The body condition scores were closely correlated (P&lt;0.01) to subcutaneous (r=0.358-0.545) and intermuscular (r=0.560) fat thickness, especially to back fat thickness at the 8-10th vertebrae (BF-1) and at the 13th rib (13-FT) and intermuscular fat thickness (IMFT).
Significant differences were found in the ultrasonic estimates of BF-1, 13-FT, IMFT, REA (p&lt;0.01) and BMS (p&lt;0.05) among sires. Calving stages had significant effects (p&lt;0.01) on the depot fat thickness of all points. It was found that subcutaneous and intermuscular fat thickness of cows of the third calving considerably decreased as compared with that of the first and the second calving, especially for BF-1, 1, 13-FT and R-FT. The linear regression coefficients on the age of monts for R-FT, REA and 13-FT and the quadratic regression coefficients on that for 7-FT, BF-1 and IMFT were significant. Cows fed corn silage had bigger REA and higher BMS (p&lt;0.01) than fed fiber-mix.</dc:description>
