We therefore propose a new practice method for sixth-year medical students. All of 33 students once completed three hours of basic training in cardiac auscultation including procedures and identifying common cardiac diseases in fifth-year. After solving cardiac disease problems in 19 cases described in past national examinations, the students immediately checked the auscultatory findings of these patients during two hours of training using a cardiac patient simulator. The ratio of comprehension among the students was significantly higher for cardiac diseases that they had studied in the fifth-year than for those that were the most recently introduced (86.1% vs. 66.7%, p < 0.001). After the training, 94% of them stated that this training method is more effective than classroom lectures for mastering cardiac auscultatory findings.
