Gas temperature in the combustion chamber is used to calculate a coefficient of heat transfer on the combustion chamber wall. However, generally the temperature of the gas is calculated from pressure by the first law of thermodynamics. It is thought that the true gas temperature close to the wall is lower than the calculated temperature. First of all, it is necessary to calibrate the infrared detector. The density of in cylinder gas changes with crank angle. The gas is reproduced to gas density same as a state of ATDC30, 47 and 59 degrees of the engine in combustion vessel of constant volume. Density and relations of the radiant quantities are led using the infrared radiant quantities being in proportion to density and enabled temperature measurements from ATDC30 to 59 degrees. Next, in frared detector was installed to an engine, and the gas temperature close to the wall surface was measured. The measurement values are near to calculated temperature from pressure. Therefore it is able to use the gas temperature obtained from the pressure to calculate the coefficient of heat transfer.
